Microsoft heeft een nieuwe versie uitgebracht van de Windows Terminal. Het gaat om versie 1.6 met bugfixes en meer werk aan een interface voor de instellingen van de applicatie. Windows Terminal is een terminalapplicatie en een zeer goede vervanger voor de ingebouwde Opdrachtprompt en de PowerShell-terminal in Windows zelf. Het heeft veel meer moderne functies, zoals tabbladen, utf-8 en utf-16-ondersteuning, 24-bit kleuren, zoeken, thema's en het heeft ondersteuning voor Opdrachtprompt, PowerShell, PowerShell Core en WSL, allemaal in een applicatie.
Versie 1.6 bevat een bijgewerkte versie van het lettertype, Cascadia Code, namelijk versie 2102.25. Daarnaast is er werk verzet om de instellingen nu grafisch weer te geven, in plaats van via een json-bestand. Helaas is dat werk nog niet af. Bovendien zal de Windows Terminal nu een bel-icoon weergeven zelfs als visual belling uitgeschakeld is. Je vindt het volledige changelog hieronder.

Je kunt Windows Terminal downloaden en installeren via de Microsoft Store. Gebruik je die liever niet, dan kun je de applicatie ook downloaden als msixbundle vanaf GitHub.

A preinstallation kit is available for system integrators and OEMs interested in prepackaging Windows Terminal with a Windows image. More information is available in the DISM documentation on preinstallation. Users who do not intend to preinstall Windows Terminal should continue using the msixbundle distribution.
