Software-update: VMware Fusion 25H2

VMware Fusion is een handige tool waarmee je besturingssystemen kunt virtualiseren op macOS. Fusion is gratis en stelt je in staat om, onder andere, Windows 11 en Linux te draaien op je Mac. In Windows 11 biedt VMware Fusion 3d-versnelde graphics aan, waardoor zelfs wat gaming mogelijk is. Ook kun je een virtual machine automatisch starten en kun je snapshots van een VM maken zodat je eenvoudig wijzigingen ongedaan kunt maken.

Wat is er nieuw?

Broadcom heeft een nieuwe versie van VMware Fusion uitgebracht. Het gaat om versie 25H2. Nieuw is de versienummering, die nu bestaat uit de laatste twee cijfers van het jaartal en de jaarhelft waarin de versie is uitgebracht. Verder biedt deze versie van Fusion een nieuwe commandline utility, namelijk dicTool. Hiermee kun je VMware-configuratiebestanden inspecteren.

Ook is er ondersteuning toegevoegd voor usb3.2 en is de hardwareversie van VM’s bijgewerkt naar versie 22. Verder zijn er nieuwe besturingssystemen die je nu in Fusion kunt draaien, zoals Debian 13, Fedora 42 en Oracle Linux 10. Ook macOS Tahoe is nu als guest ondersteund, maar alleen op Intel-Macs. Downloaden

Om VMware Fusion te downloaden, heb je een Broadcom-account nodig. Na het inloggen ga je naar deze pagina. Klik op de voorwaarden en ga daarna terug naar de downloadpagina. Nu kun je akkoord gaan met de voorwaarden en klikken op de downloadknop om VMware Fusion binnen te halen.

Instructies

Voer het gedownloade bestand uit en klik op Install VMware Fusion om de nieuwste versie te installeren. Fusion kopieert zichzelf naar de Applicatiemap, dat hoef je niet handmatig te doen. Na enige tijd opent Fusion zich en is de installatie voltooid.

A Clearer Versioning Model

Staying current with your tools should be simple. With calendar versioning, it’s now easier to understand when your release was published and plan upgrades accordingly.

We’re moving away from traditional version numbers (e.g., Workstation 17.6.x, Fusion 13.6.x) and adopting a new naming format — 25H2 — that reflects the year (2025) and the half of the year (H2). This provides consistency across releases and ensures clarity for customers.

• dictTool (Workstation & Fusion)
  A new command-line utility that allows customers to inspect and edit VMware configuration files (.vmx, preferences). This provides more flexibility and automation for advanced users — a capability that was highly requested by our community.
• USB 3.2 Support (Workstation & Fusion)
  Faster data transfers and improved compatibility with modern USB devices.
• Hardware Version 22 (Workstation & Fusion)
  Ensures virtual machines (VMs) take advantage of the latest hardware capabilities for improved performance and compatibility.
• Hyper-V/WHP Detection (Workstation only)
  Helps to identify the VM’s running mode in Workstation by clearly showing Hyper-V/WHP status.
