Ubuntu is een gebruiksvriendelijke Linux-distributie gebaseerd op Debian. Elke zes maanden verschijnt er een nieuwe versie van Ubuntu, met daarin een bijgewerkte software-stack, zoals nieuwe versies van Gnome, de Linux-kernel, LibreOffice en meer. Normale versies van Ubuntu krijgen negen maanden lang updates. Eens in de twee jaar komt een versie met langetermijnondersteuning uit, de zogenaamde LTS-versies. Zo’n versie krijgt ondersteuning voor vijf jaar. Standaard gebruikt Ubuntu als desktop-omgeving Gnome, dat zich vooral richt op eenvoud.
Wat is er nieuw?
Canonical heeft Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS uitgebracht. Dit is de tweede puntrelease van Ubuntu 22.04, waarin veel bugfixes, beveiligingsupdates en andere software-updates zijn toegevoegd aan Ubuntu. Ook bevat deze versie van Ubuntu een nieuwe hardware enablement stack, waarmee je een nieuwe versie van de Linux-kernel en nieuwe versies van grafische drivers kunt installeren. Versie 22.04.2 bevat Linux-kernel 5.19, Mesa 22.2.4 en libdrm 2.4.113. Verder zijn Mozilla Firefox 110, Gnome Shell 42.5 en meer van de partij. The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS (Long-Term Support) for its Desktop, Server, and Cloud products, as well as other flavours of Ubuntu with long-term support.
As usual, this point release includes many updates and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and corrections for other high-severity bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. 22.04.2 also brings new RISC-V platform support, providing fresh images for the LicheeRV and PolarFire Icicle Kit boards.
Kubuntu 22.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu Budgie 22.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu MATE 22.04.2 LTS, Lubuntu 22.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu Kylin 22.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu Studio 22.04.2 LTS, and Xubuntu 22.04.2 LTS are also now available. More details can be found in their individual release notes (see ‘Official flavours’):

Maintenance updates will be provided for 5 years for Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Cloud, and Ubuntu Core. All the remaining flavours will be supported for 3 years. Additional security support is available with ESM (Extended Security Maintenance).
