macOS is het besturingssysteem van de Mac. Het op Unix-gebaseerde besturingssysteem krijgt jaarlijks een grote update en tussendoor kleinere updates met soms nieuwe features, maar met name bugfixes en veiligheidsupdates. macOS kenmerkt zich met het dock onderaan en de menubalk bovenaan het scherm.
De laatste jaren kenmerkt de ontwikkeling van macOS zich vooral door nieuwe functies die vanaf de iPad komen. In Big Sur is de interface van de Mac opgefrist, met meer transparantie en vernieuwde apps. Verder is het Bedieningspaneel vanuit iOS toegevoegd en is het meldingencentrum vernieuwd.
Wat is er nieuw
Apple heeft vanavond iOS, watchOS, tvOS en ook macOS bijgewerkt. Het gaat hier om versie 11.3 voor macOS Big Sur met veel kleine verbeteringen. Er zijn nieuwe sorteeropties in de Herinneringen-app, je kunt nu de audio-uitvoer instellen op stereo-HomePods. Macs met een Apple Silicon-chip (M1) hebben verbeteringen de iPhone- en iPad-apps daarop. Zo is het nu mogelijk om de vensters van deze apps van grootte te veranderen. Verder is er ondersteuning toegevoegd voor de controllers van de nieuwste generatie Xbox- en PlayStation-consoles en is er ondersteuning toegevoegd voor de nieuwe AirTags van Apple.

Je installeert de update door op je Mac rechtsboven naar het Apple-menu te gaan. Klik dan op Systeemvoorkeuren en kies dan voor Software-update. Je Mac gaat nu op zoek naar updates. Als die beschikbaar zijn dan verschijnt de update vanzelf. Klik op Werk nu bij om de update te starten

- Reminders created via Siri may be unintentionally set for early morning hours
- iCloud Keychain might not turn off

- External 4K monitors may not display in full resolution when connected over USB-C
- Login window may not display properly after restarting Mac mini (M1, 2020)
- The Dwell feature may not work in the Accessibility Keyboard
